WinXP Home error message on startup

When I first start Windows, a ".NET Framework Initialization error" window
pops up, saying "...to run this application, you must install version
1.1.4322 of .NET Framework". When I try to follow the instructions to do
this, I keep getting Internal errors in a "Copy" window. I don't know what
"this application" is; I don't have anything in Startup folder that requires
a .NET Framework; I have uninstalled and reinstalled the network components
of Windows and have verified that the installed .NET Framework version is
indeed v1.1.4322. What's going on? Could someone please reply to
(e-mail address removed)

Hi

How are you trying to install .NET Framework? Via Windows Update or a
manual download? If your system does need that app., then Windows Update
will tell you so.

"HP Director" for my HP All-in-one requires .NET Framework v1.1.4233 but this
is ALREADY installed... Any suggestions?
