WinXP Dual HD Boot issues ???

K

Katmandu

Ok,

My system currently has (2) physical HDs both have Win XP Pro as the O/S.
The Primary Master is a 2.5G 4500RPM HD. And the Primary Slave is a 40G 7200
RPM HD.

I have the 40G partitioned with (2)Logical drives.

I used to be able to boot from either drive with no problems. Sometime in
the past, I lost the ability to boot from the 40G HD. I have NO idea WTF
caused that problem, but other than the boot problem, it functions just
fine.

Now, I would like to be able to boot from the 40G (or either of the Logical
Drives) and do away with the pokey 2.5G 4500RPM HD.

When I try to reinstall XP, it will NOT give me the option to load on any
other HD except the Primary Master (2.5G HD).

How do I fix the 40Gs boot problem or reinstall XP on it (or the Logical
drives) ??

I had a similar problem with running 3 different XPs on two drives

I found that you have to 'new' install XP each time, not reinstall or
'repair', as it does not have the correct prompts

if you reboot from the disk from scratch, it will take you through the
choices of where you want to put the new MBR (master boot record)

this unfortunately will wipe out all your personalisations from that
original setup - it is a real pain

Boot from the XP CD and load Recovery Console. Then run bootcfg and fixboot.
