When I boot up, once the process reaches the blue screen with the Windows
logo, (about 30-45 seconds), the blue screen remains there for between
90-120 seconds. My question is, what part of the process is
happening---what's being loaded??---during that timeframe?

Or is something else to blame?

Ran a NAV system scan.

Windows is trying to make sense of whatever you have installed or loaded.. a
scanner or printer maybe.. a webcam or digital camera.. huge amounts of
fonts.. setting up of anti/virus and firewall processes.. instant message
systems.. it really can't be put down to any one thing.. each computer set
up is different and depends on what the user has done..
