WinXP - anyway of changing Network from Workgroup to back to a Domain?

had a whoopsie on my work PC WinXP that I took home and connected to m
network.

I mistakenly thought I could simply change it from a domain to
workgroup login to make my laptop visible so I could move my files to
bigger PC...

Ooops! Once I'd made this change it won't let me login, saying my use
id / password is invalid (I guess its tied to my domain right? s
without it I can't get back in to reset the network connection back t
a domain).

****!

So I installed Win XP on the laptops D drive - an am wondering can yo
boot into D and change some setting in a network ini file of
registery or a boot ini files somewhere on the C drive - then boot bac
into C with it pointing back to my domain, not my workgroup?

Many thanks!

No one could help when I tried this in trouble shooting :

In order to do anything on the PC you need to ask the administrator at work
for the local admin account on the laptop.

Once you have the local admin account you can log on as the admin and access
your profile in documents and settings and copy files etc.

You can also use that account to begin the process of adding the laptop to
the domain, but you will need an account in the domain that can add a
computer to the domain in order to complete the process.

Last attempts, would either of the following work

1. Copy cmd.exe or explorer.exe or rstrui.exe to system root \system32
as my logon.scr file and simply wait for screen saver to reset the
domain or reset to an earlier restore point?

2. Copy my D drives password/user file to C and reboot there as either
matthew or admin and then execute a system restore?

Just thinking that if I can either get past logon to a admin account -
or force a system restore I'm covered!

Else its as you said!

Won't work and could make matters worse. The computer must be connected to a
network where there is a domain controller to be joined to the domain again
and may require domain administrator credentials. If you had a full image
backup of your system drive before you removed it from the domain that would
work. --- Steve

You have to login using the administrator acount, and change it back
to domain.
