On Windows XP Prof Machine had been using Domain Login at
work. On home network I had previously with old Win 98
Machine from work changed the Domain Login to Workgroup to
allow access to printers and my normal Windows ID and
Password (as used on domain) worked. With XP made the
change in the Network section of control panel. Re boot
Machine and no longer have Domain name input box - good
but the User ID / Password combination that worked via
Domain Login does not work - locked out of the machine.

Any Ideas for solutions ?

Having left the domain the accounts of the domain can
no longer be used on that machine.
You must log in with a machine-local account.

Hi,

I have a similar situation here I think. I have a work computer with an
account that was logging into a domain...I decided I wanted to connect this
computer to my hone network...so I changed the network ID to Workgroup. I
now cannot login to the machine at all (tells me the password/username are
incorrect). In the windows login...I see Local UserName (not sure if it was
this before) and From: (this now includes Workgroup and the what was the
Computer Name...but not the work domain. I am pretty confused here and
totally screwed if I can't get this fixed.

Help please!

Bring the computer back to work and ask them to add you back to the domain.
You can't log into the computer with your old account, as you didn't have a
local account, and if you don't know the local admin credentials, you're
locked out. This happens a lot, and is one of the reasons a lot of domain
admins don't give user accounts local admin rights on the computer ... ask
your admin to be kind to you. :-)
