While in Explorer, Word or Excel, when I right click a file I get an error
message related to the file winword.exe. I am then asked to report the error
to Microsoft, which I did and got no reply. I then get a message that the
file is being recovered. How can I fix this problem? Thanks in advance.

Please post a copy of the Error as it appears in Event Viewer.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Two points:

1. Word problems are best addressed in a newsgroups dedicated to
Microsoft Word, rather than here in a Windows one. The Word newsgroups
are where the Word experts hang out.

2. When you do post in a Word newsgroup, be sure to provide the exact
verbatim text of the error message you get. You should *always* do
this when you seek help with an error message.

You have Office 2003 and your system does not like Power Desk. Is Power
Desk an old version? One solution you could try is to uninstall Power
Desk, test and then see if the error come back when you reinstall.

I uninstalled Power Disk and my problem was corrected. I have had that version of Power Disk on my computer since 2003, so it must be an older version. I don't need Power Disk on my computer, since I never use it. Thanks a lot for the help.
