An incompleted uninstall of Panda Antivirus software has
left me unable to connect to the internet. Their tech
support advised me to delete entries in the registry>>
HKeyLocalMachine\Software\WinSock2\PavLayered and delete
one key value of the two there. Unfortunately when I
tried to delete an entry I got an "CANNOT DELETE ITEM,
ERROR WHILE DELELTEING KEY" They advise me they only way
to gain connectivity again is to delete one of the
entires but neither will delete. I am facing doing a
complete restore using the Compaq restore CD's, I have
100's of programs loaded and want to do that as a final
option. All suggestions are welcome as I am at the point
of trying anything. I can not use system restore as I
tried all my restore points and none would restore
successfully. I have a compaq 8000T 2(120GB)SATA drives
in Raid-0, 1GB of DDR. XP-Pro. Thanks to all!

You can again install and then uninstall Panda Antivirus. But if
repeated uninstall procedure cannot end without errors, there is a small
utility for repairing Winsock2 named LSPFix http://cexx.org/lspfix.htm.

"LSP-Fix is a free utility to repair a specific type of problem
associated with certain Internet software. This type of software is
known as a Layered Service Provider or LSP, a piece of software that can
be inserted into the Windows TCP/IP handler like a link in a chain.
However, due to bugs in the LSP software or deletion of the software,
this chain can get broken, rendering the user unable to access the
Internet."
