WinPE boot from Hard Disk partition

What is the process to boot WinPE from a Hard Disk partition other than C
partition.
(i.e. an active partition E) without using Command Console (cmdcons)?

Michael,

This post is a little vague... are you attempting to boot the machine from a
cold state into the Win PE Partition?

First, this may not be the best NG to post winPE questions into, as the
Windows XPE team does not own WinPE, they only use it for purposes of TA and
TAP.exe to deploy XPE... might try something along the lines of
microsoft.public.windowsxp.setup_deployment... not sure if that's the right
one either, but might be worth a shot...

That being said, I have not personally tried to get WinPE to boot from a
HDD. I have yet to run into a scenario where the CDROM won't work, or that I
would need to boot from HDD... The OPK may allow you to setup some fun stuff
to make it work, but no guarantees. :)

John,
Just a bit of clarification. I work for Itronix Corporation in Spokane. We
have licensing with Microsoft and my supervisor or one the senior developers
here may already have the WinPE OEM Preinstallation Kit, I need to ask
around. My motivation for booting from E partition is as follows.
We have a recovery image saved on our laptops on the E partition. We are
attempting to start WinPE and load the recovery image from this partition
exclusively without needing any access to a CD or any files on C. The reason
being if a customer needs to recover, their machine may not have reliable
files on C or drivers to run the CD drive. I hope this helps clarify my
question. I will try posting to the other forum as well. Thanks alot.
