WinPE and XPe

Hey Guys-

I read a post a couple days back where KM stated that you can get WinPe on
the Evaluation Copy of Xpe, I was wondering if anyone can confirm that???
Before I go and spend a whopping 2.95, haha.

We had contractors working on this project before I started and they took
the original cds with them so I only have a copy and I can't seem to get
WINPE to boot, I seem to think they copied them incorrectly. Our vendor
refuses to send us another copy without shelling out 1000 bucks even though I
have the original OEM license. I really just need winpe since it can be used
to distrubute an image over the network with sdi image technology. I can
also use it via Windows 2000 Remote Install Services.

Thanks

Yes, it includes WinPE. One thing to note, the version of WinPE that is
included on XPE Disk1 does not allow you to customize the WinPE image. You
simply insert XPE Disk1, boot from the CD-ROM, and then WinPE starts.

If you have custom device drivers or something like that, you'd have to
obtain WinPE toolkit or the OEM Preinstallation Kit from your Microsoft
distributor.

Hi Daniel,

Is this a licensing problem? Since it is possible to add drivers to WinPE even without tools.

Yes, it was a licensing issue. However, for XPE SP2, you should be able to
get the WinPE Toolkit from your Microsoft Embedded distributor. You'd need
to follow up with them to obtain it.

I ordered the evaluation CDs last week (haven't received those yet...)
intending to boot WinPE with RIS; i also wanted to customize my WinPE to
automate a sdi file deployment on a harddisk.

Does it mean that i won't be able to customize my WinPE ?
Do i have to buy the WinPE Toolkit to do so ?

To extend my evaluation license, can i use my MSDN licenses or shall i buy a
XP Embedded dev kit from a reatiler ?

Hi Pascal,

I'm not sure. I don't know if there are stipulations if you are using the
evaluation version of XPE. You will have to contact your distributor to
find out what the policy is regarding eval versions.
