Winmgmt.exe creating problems...

Phahim

Hi There,

Since couple of days i have noticed that my system which is running windows
2000 Pro SP4 is running on 98% - 100% cpu usage. And the cause is the
winmgmt.exe which is unable to stop by windows. It is creating a lot of
problems iam not able to install anything new on the system.

I have tired it by disabling the winmgmt serivce but the result is the same
not able to install anything on my system.

So anyone have any solution about how to fix winmgmt.exe's problem??
Thanks
Phahim.

I also have this problem, since the last round of updates a few weeks ago.
The winmgmt service just cripples my win2k box.
No errors at all in the event log, just has the cpu pegged at 100%.
If I stop the service, everything is fine until it starts back up and runs
for a little while.
I have temporarily turned it to "disabled" until I can find a fix for the
problem.
Any ideas?

TIA!

I third this. I've been having this problem for at least a few weeks.
At first I thought it was triggered by my screen saver somehow (win
starfield). For a while, I thought I could avoid the problem by
running winmgmt.msc and opening "Properties", which seemed to
"preoccupy" winmgmt.exe. Now, the problem starts almost immediately
after login, which means I have no way to stop it (winmgmt.msc can't
connect to the service). I can't kill it, and it won't respond to my
stopping the service. It seems to be running in tandem with
CSRSS.EXE in hogging up my CPU. If anybody has any suggestions, I'd
like to hear them!

Send a copy of csrss.exe to VirusTotal.com just to check to see if
it may be infected.
