WinmediaPlayer 9 distortion

Windows Media Plyer 9 sounds like the old Max Headroom
character. Every 2-4 minutes I get a second or two of
stacatto reverberation sound. Saw Hermes post so I
looked and it is not connected to hard drive
running......Happens regarless of sound source whether CD
playing, net radio or imbedded sound.

Any help?

Try turning down harware acceleration for your soundcard. See this page :
