When I send emails they are sometimes received as
winmail.dat files. ALso my attachments become winmail.dat
files. Help, why is this happening and how can I correct
it?

The most common reason is that message format is set to Rich Text and/or you
are using Word as your e-mail editor. Set message format to plain text or
html and disable Word as your e-mail editor.

I too have this problem. However I am sending using Plain
Text. Some receive the attachment ok, others receive
winmail.dat and other only receive an email approximately
the size of the attachent but no attachent is visible. Do
you have any other suggestion splease.

Open the contact record of the person you are sending mail to. Double click
on their e-mail address. Make sure the box to *always* send in Outlook Rich
Text is not selected.

I've also heard of certain PDA sync software always forcing messages to go
out in TNEF format, but can't remember which. I would have to search the
archives of this group via google.

ps - i'm assuming you are working with pop/imap account. if working against
an exchange mailbox via the exchange transport, there is even more reasons.
(the server can be set to override your preferences.)
