WinMail Could not be started 0x800C0155,2 error

error message is:
Win Mail could not be started 0x800C0155,2
MSOE.DLL could not be initiated

I am unable to open an email from websites (contact us or email link). I get
the error msg above.
It seems this started when updates to Vista were downloaded. Don't know
which ones.
It may also be related to Adobe Reader updates, since I seem to be having
problems with opening a
pdf files from websites. I get an error msg that relates to Adobe Reader
(no problems opening pdf files I have saved in my computer).

I cannot seem to find a fix anywhere for this. Some posts suggest using
Windows Live instead, but I already have a windows life email address and it
does not have the same capabilities of the Windows Mail. I am hoping
someone here have any other suggestions, or perhaps if we complain enough,
the Vista folks will finally come up with a fix for this problem that a lot
of folks seem to also have.

I have already restored my laptop to its original settings and the problem
went away. However, as soon as the udpates came around again and updated the
systems, the problem returned.

Welcome any suggestions!

The Windows Mail program was essentially abandoned by Microsoft
in June 2006, in favor of developing the Windows Live Mail program.
Windows Live (I think you mean Windows Live Hotmail) is not the
same thing as Windows Live Mail. You may want to try it out, to see
if Windows Live Mail fulfills your needs. If you don't like it, simply
uninstall it.

Good luck with that --I have that problem with updates turned off, antivirus
uninstalled, etc. etc. I replaced it with Win Live Mail but that won't open
as you can read in my concurrent post.

Installing another program is a stupid way to fix the problem in Winmail, so
anyone who suggests that is just copping out of the problem.

First thing to do is to go to Control Panel | Default programs | association
a file type or protocol with a program. Then page down and find the mailto
protocol and make sure that is associated with WinMail. Then get my Windows
Mail Utility (www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/) and run it to repair the WinMail
database. Then see if Winmail will start okay.

Also check for 3rd party program interference such as antivirus stuff. See
point 3 here: www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

See if that helps any.

I don't know what is "stupid" about discontinuing use of a program that
has no future, and which Microsoft abruptly stopped all development on
in June 2006. Smart people recognize when it's time to move on.

You don't fix a Chevy by buying a Chrysler. You look inside and see what
the problem is, not sell the customer another car. That just shows you
don't know how to fix Chevys.

Oh, and by the way, you are currently using a "program that has no future"

X-Newsreader: Microsoft Windows Mail 6.0.6002.17043
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.1.7600.16385

Chevrolet no longer supports or makes replacement parts for the Chevy Nova.
The same thing for Ford and the Model T.
At some point fixing old things becomes more trouble than it's worth,
plus you are missing out on the newer advancements.

Indeed, but in a very limited way: for Microsoft newsgroups only,
which also are slowly going the way of the dodo bird. :-(

Tell that to all the Toyota customers that can't get their vehicles fixed
because they don't have access to the software. I just heard Akio Toyoda
deny that Toyotas have software problems but most people believe that
Toyotas do have deadly software problems. I think there will be many people
buying cars other than Toyotas because they are scared by the potential for
being killed by faulty software.

We can't fix buggy software if we don't have the source code.
