Winlogon problems

I was trying to clear a boot.vbs virus and the instructions told me to go to
the registry and delete data files from the winlogon folder. I did this then
rebooted and when the machine got to the logon screen it does not recognise
any accounts or passwords, they seem to have been deleted. How can i get
into the system? it boots fine but i have no account details to get past the
logon screen.

Tap the F8 key during the boot and when the menu appears, try the: last
known good configuration.

Hello Wolfie

Have you tried logging in using the built-in Administrator account?

You don't say if you have XP Pro or Home. If Pro: at the Welcome Screen
press Ctrl-Alt-Del twice and you should get a login box pop up. Enter
Administrator as the username; by default the password is blank.

If you have Home, you'll need to boot to Safe Mode and should see the
Admin account as a choice on the Welcome Screen. If you don't, again try
Ctrl-Alt-Del twice as above and see if you can get into the system.

I have managed to do a system restore from the pc's recovery disk so thanks
to all that have contributed to my problem
