winlogon.exe -application error

T

Tom

This screen keeps popping up and I can't do anything to
keep it from shutting off then starting back up again.
the box says"
The Instruction at "0x100073b0" referenced memory
at "0x01215000". The memory could not be "read"

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
It doesn't matter what I hit, it will shut down. Any
ideas?
Thanks

Tom,

I have found this to be a problem in many systems that have been upated to
XP SP1, regardless of hardware configuration. You are experiencing the
explorer.exe shutting down and then initializing again. You may also see in
the event log that memory could not be written to a certain memory address.

It took me about six months looking for and asking for remedies and I have
found that a forthcoming patch in the SP 2 answered my delimma. Click on
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329692&Product=winxp
#appliesto, scroll down and read what this patch does and click Duser.dll to
download the patch.

Tom - Did John's instruction fix your problem? I've had the same problem for almost a month now and I'm running out of things to try.
