I'm intrigued but a bit lost. . . Some possible uses are listed on the
web page. Other ideas? Channel surfing? Accessibility software?

Controlling almost any program written for it by remote control. Maybe
even controlling programs *not* written for it (using some auxiliary
program) by remote control. Since there's an ActiveX control for it,
the hard work has most likely been done.
