Please help! I'm not sure if I'm even in the right place. From my desktop I
created a new folder. Within the file I have created a text file, index.txt,
and from that saved as an .html file so that I can begin creating my own
website. I've since added quite a bit of basic html code to the main page.
Following that I've created several other files that will all link together.
Until today I have had no problem with opening the index.html doc which opens
with IE7. Today I tried to open it so I could do a little more editing and
was denied access. I received the following message... "Windows cannot
access the device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate
permissions to access the item." This is my PC... no one else uses it. I
don't log on. So how does my PC deny me access to my own files that I
created?
Is it my PC or is it IE7 prohibiting me? Or what? and .... how do I fix it?

The desktop is not the right place to save files, shortcuts yes, not files
Maybe the path is too long?

Try using File; Open from IE and navigate to that file, and open it directly
with IE.

No comments on IE7.

after I installed IE7 I had the same issue when I tried to open previously
saved web links on my desktop. When I received a similar message you
mentioned but mine said I didn't have access to the Internet (but I did)
there was an option or another window that asked if I wanted to find fix the
error. I went through the motions and the result was "you have access to the
internet". Thereafter my links to web pages saved on my desktop before
installing IE7 accessed the internet perfectly.

If you are receiving a message to try to fix the issue follow it and maybe
it will fix itself like mine did.

the other possibility is to right click the item you can't open that is in
the folder on your desktop. Then click properties and write down the path to
the item you can't open.

Go to start>search>files or folders and search for the document. When it
appears then double click the item to open it. "Save as" to another location
and it should then open ok...I think.
Good luck
