WindowsXP Pro Auto shut Down not working properly

I totally erased my hard drive, reformatted and installed a fresh copy of
windows XP pro and downloaded the latest drivers for my hardware because of
problems i was having with my system. After doing so all problems went away
except for one. When i turn off the computer using windows it goes thruogh
its normal cycle turns off then it reboots again automaticly it then goes
through its normal boot cycle until it finishes checking memory and devices
there it freezes and then i can turn off the computer from the off button on
the computer. Can anyone please help me with this problem.

What do you mean? Will it boot into windows at all? Describe exactly what
happens.

What happens is when i am finished working on the computer, i choose the
icon on windows to Turn Off Computer. Computer will go thru its shut down
cycle. After it shuts down it will immediatly start computer again as though
i pressed the on button on the computer. The computer will freeze on the
screen at the very begining where it shows the main processor, memory check
and detection of IDE drives. The same screen where you press DEL to get into
the CMOS Setup Utility. It does not start windows. At this time i can press
the on off button on the computer to turn off the computer. At times not even
the on off button will turn off the computer. It will do the same thing as i
described above until i unplug the computer. Very rarely wil it turn off
normally.

Sounds like hardware. Anything newly installed?Go to start/run and type in
eventvwr.msc and see if there are any red x's in any of the logs. Will the
computer shut down normaly from safemode? Start/run devmgmt.msc are there
any yellow !! next to anything?

I forgot to mention this,start/run and enter sysdm.cpl click on advanced
tab/start up and recovery.Under system failure un click"automatically
restart" reboot and see if you get an error message at all.
