Even with Windows Update turned off my system generates a
'windowsupdate.log' file (%systemroot%) every shutdown. Of course every
entry in there says 'windows update failed'. Sure, it's turned off!

How can we get the LOG feature turned off?

TIA
Vic

Here is the exact message from the log (minus time stamp)

WUCheckForUpdatesAtShutdown failed

Disable the Automatic Updates service.

Open Services...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Scroll down to and double click Automatic Updates |
Set the startup type to Disabled | Click Apply |
Click the Stop button | When the service stops, click OK |
Close Services

wuauclt.exe = Automatic Updates
wuauclt1.exe = Windows Update AutoUpdate Client
wuauserv.dll = Windows Update AutoUpdate Service

Hi Wesley

Checked the Windows Update service. It was set to manual, then set to
disabled. Still no joy. Perhaps the dll's you mentioned are still
loading, but how? Any further ideas?

Thanks
Vic

Reboot. Or open Task Manager and kill off wuauclt_whatever if listed.
