windowspatch

When opening Outlook Express, I've gotten a popup message
at least three times in recent days. It comes
from "Microsoft Networks" and it advises that something in
my system could allow a code execution 828035. I need to
go to www.windowspatch.net to download a patch.
The website has no links, just the download. All this
seems a little suspicious to me, particularly that the
message comes in a popup.
Know anything about it?

I'd like an answer to this, too. I was updating my new install o
Windows2000 Professional (Corp Edition) last night on a 56-K DUN (yes
I know, slow, but it's all I had at the time). I got that popup, plu
one for something like www.windowsupdate.org or similar.

Also, while I was connected to Microsoft to download these, somewher
along the line my Norton AntiVirus (Corp Edition) caught an attempt t
write Sasser! What's up with that?? Am I NOT at Microsoft.Com here??

Thanks,
Chri

You can be connected to and downloading from a website but if you do not have a
properly configured firewall you are vulnerable to attacks on your computer at any
time from the internet. Go to http://scan.sygatetech.com/ for a quick scan while on
the internet and you see what if any basic vulnerabilities you have. There are plenty
of free firewalls such as Zone Alarm that is easy to configure. --- Steve
