mine is on the side, as for a cd are u sure ? smoe pc
come with a restore or recovery cd to get it back to the
factory default, you should at least have that? its then
just a case off boot ing from it

Not sure I understand you statement.

1. Are you saying that you purchased an XP retail and have an XP CD but did not get a
product key?

2. Or, are you saying that you got an XP cd with you PC but have no product key?

For #1, you would either return the product to the store where it was purchased, or
you will need to contact Microsoft directly.

For #2, this would be an OEM version of XP and the product key would be on a sticker
like the one here:

not have this, you must contact the seller to obtain it for you.

the product key should be located on a sticker somewhere
on the computer.

my os came w/cd w/no product code - i need it to
reinstall, help?

Get the View Key utility from
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/tips_fixes.htm

That will show you the product key that was used to install Windows
XP.

Note that if your Windows XP is a "bios locked" OEM version then it
may not be necessary to enter a product key during the reinstall.

Good luck

Greetings --

If you didn't get a Product Key, you didn't get a legitimate
license to use the OS.

The Windows 25-character Product Key (required to perform the
installation) is stored on the CD packaging on a bright orange sticker
that says "Do not lose this number." If it was an OEM (factory
installed) license, it's stored on a label that the PC manufacturer
affixed to the exterior of the PC case, or on the bottom of a laptop.

To recover a lost Product Key:

If your system still runs, you should be able to use AIDA32
Enterprise from http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php to find the Product
Key. (If you have a factory-installed OEM license, and haven't since
reinstalled the OS, the revealed Product Key is probably of the drive
image used at the factory and not _your_ specific Product Key;
therefore, it probably cannot be -- and definitely should not be --
used for a re-installation.)

If it was a retail license and you have proof of purchase:

If it was an OEM license, you should contact whomever sold you the
OS; although very few manufacturers/vendors keep records of the
Product Keys they've sold, it's worth a try before you have to buy a
new license.
