Ok here is where I found the article.

www.triwdata.ch/

look under todays date, the page is in German, but
the Microsoft article is in english.
Sorry,but it worked for me.

To add more info. Real world info. I use at least 10 or more of those
programs and have not had one peoblem with SP2 at all or any of the
programs.
Instead of being worried, you should install sp2 and if it "breaks" a
program you need either wait for the program update or patch or uninstall
sp2. The security features in sp2 out weighs any potential probs you might
or might not run into.

This must be what you meant?

OK article with good information.

Turning off the automatic update is only the first step.
If that is the last step you are failing your computer miserably.
Many people report no issues with the listed applications.
Those that do are usually fixed with a quick setting change often in
the firewall.

An important step is to check if your essential hardware and software
is compatible with SP-2.
With little preparation most are finished soon with a more secure
computer.

OK - read the article: and it is useful. I do not intend
to install SP2 yet...better wait till Microsoft smooths
the glitches. Anyhow, thanks again for sharing the info.
This is what makes Newsgroups great!
poltonis :-)

Here is the one that scares me the most about deploying to our org:

Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Editon 9.0 - Needed so that while pushing anti
virus Definition to clients, the client computer will accept the updates and
can be scanned.

Sorry about that,it is the
Knowledge Base Article 884130

First, note that it's "Programs that *may* behave differently."
Not "will," but "may." I run several of these programs and only
one of them behaves differently at all. And that one had a simple
fix that was easy to locate and implement.

In most cases, if these programs behave differently, it's because
of the firewall. The widely-held perception that this is a list
of serious problems is wrong. In most cases, SP2 has little to do
with it. It's simply that if you were running a program without a
firewall before, and now you're running with a firewall, it will
likely behave differently.

That firewall could be SP2's, it could be the original XP
firewall, it could be ZoneAlarm, it could be any other. It's the
addition of the firewall that creates the difference, not the
addition of SP2.

In most cases, all that's necessary to fix the "problem" is to
configure the firewall to allow the program to work. And if it's
not the firewall, it's probably some other simple setting that
needs to be changed.

Thanks for this info!

If you already have a good firewall, can I assume it's recommended
not to use SP2's as was the situation with SP1?

I have not had any trouble with any of the listed programs.

But Microsoft should really provide a better explanation for the list. With
all of their resources, they seem to be very week in the communications
area. They should hire some specialists.

If you have another firewall you are happy with, I suggest you disable
the Windows firewall.
Generally it is recommended to use only one firewall.

That is why I said "OK" about the article.
References for specific fixes would have made an OK article great.

make that weak :)
