After downloading XP machine will not start up. Keeps restarting with a
message "stemroot\system32\config\software". Any help would be greatly
appreciated as the computer is useless the way it is. Will not let me reboot
from CD or anything. Tx, fr8.

What, specifically, do you mean by "after downloading XP....?" What
did you download, and from where?

Keeps restarting with a

That cannot possibly be the complete error message. (If it is, it's
not a WinXP problem.) Please repost the full text of the error message.
