Please Help. System running extremely slow. Reformatted
hard drive (was Windows Me) installed Windows XP. Still
have over 9GB free space on hard drive. Think it has
something to do with programs running in the background,
but can't find setting to turn off "run at start up" of
programs in the background.
Thanks

I don't think getting rid of you startups is going to
speed anything up much, but if you press the windows key
and R, then type "msconfig" (without the quotes) and press
enter you'll get the tool you need. The right most tab
lets you choose which startups you want to deactivate.
