Windows XP x64 for Turion64

The Trial version of Windows XP x64 that you can get off the internet... It
does not list that it is compatible with AMD Turion64, but AMD Athlon 64...
Can anyone clarify if it will work on my computer as well as.... How does it
work? Will I have to uninstall XP Home and install the x64 trial? Or will I
just start it up and have it boot and run everything from the disk?... I
really dont want to update my OS to a trial version... Any help on this?
Thanks in advance!

The 64-bit version of Windows XP installation would
require a reformat of your hard drive. I would suggest
staying with your current Windows XP Home Edition
installation.

Ya... me too. But, just to clarify for when the new generation of Windws
comes out.. Will it be better because it can use 64 bit, therefore greatly
increasing the speed of the programs, or will it be better because of all the
extremely powerful and demanding features it will have because it IS running
from a 64 bit processor? Resummarize for you... Will microsoft throw on a
bunch of EXTREMELY demanding features that only a 64 bit could run, just to
make people like it?

At this stage, the 64-bit OS is slower than any comparable 32-bit system
as long as there are no 64-bit applications (eg. games) available, using
more than 32-bit data. Since this is not the case at present, the hard-
ware has to process additional binary zeros (>32-bit in average) and
there is no advantage at all.

For x64 questions it's best to post to that newsgroup.

Carey,

Couldn't he put a partition on the hard disk for the trial OS and select
from multiple boot source options that appear at bootup?

I have 2 partitions on my drive, one for XP, and another in FAT 32 for
Win'98 (because I have 2 Win'98 machines on my home network and 3 XP
machines). I can boot from either partition at startup.
Cheers!
