Hi all,

I have the following problem with one of my systems. Windows XP SP1 (fresh
install) won't restart or turn off the computer. Basically, it goes through
the shutdown process, the screen goes black but all hardware keeps working.
The only way to restart after that is by pressing the reset button and the
ony way to shut it off completely is by holding the power button. Any help
would be appreciated.

P.S. The OS is installed on a RAID0 - 2 WD Raptors 36 GB each.

Thanks

Have you reinstalled the drivers on the cd that came with the computer or
mobo? If you don't have such a cd download the drivers from the appropriate
website. In the meantime you should upgrade to SP2. You are no longer
receiving security updates from Windows Update.

I made a typo in the previous post... it's SP2, not SP1. Yes, all the
drivers are there .. I don't have any unknown devices. Also, the system
failed to restart during the installation process.
Thanks

I was having problems of this nature a while back. Ctrl I, then deleted the array.
Booted the LifeGuard Diagnostic from WD. Wrote zero's and tested both drives.
Ctrl I to rebuild the array and then booted from the XP cd, and all was well.
If you have a way I would slipstream your CD to SP2. It will save you a lot
of time.
