Recently, my programs have been crashing frequently for
no reason, and when I rebooted, (professional) Windows XP
will not load at all. It remains stuck on the pretty
black screen with the scrolling blue bar that indicates
it is trying to load. There is no error message: CMOS is
has been set from everything between failsafe to optimal,
and safemode will not load Windows either. Safemode will
scroll through a list of driver files and then stop, just
like the scrolling-blue-bar stop. I've managed to
eventually load into Windows by hitting restart a lot,
but just today, that stopped working. acWhats the deal? :
( I need help, I have a midterm tomorrow and two papers
for next Tuesday!! Thanks for reading,

Time to do some hardware testing. Start with the RAM, then move on to
the hard drive and motherboard. If this isn't something you can do,
then take the machine to a good local computer repair shop (not a
CompUSA or Best Buy). Some shops even provide you a loaner, and you
could continue working on your papers with the data you backed up
previously.

Ouch, I was afraid something like that might be
suggested. Starving college student type - I don't have
spare computer parts lying around. Any software type of
stuff I could check up in the meantime until I can get my
system to a shop? (can't do that till come weekend)...

Thanks for the quick reply,

Update on the computer:
i stripped my tower completely naked, left it off for
half an hour, cooled it with the compressed gas cans, set
up a huge fan next to it....sprinkled holy water at its
base, undressed my voodoo dolls and let them commence on
a holy orgy, danced around it three times and now it
boots up. but now im going to have to power it down and
install my CDRW back in so i can backup.

YAY! So far, so good.

- Tracy.
