Windows xp will not start up

I had problems logging off my laptop last time I used it; it took a long time
to logoff. Now, when I turn it on, I get the Windows xp screen, but nothing
happens. Any ideas how I can get my laptop to boot up?

In squirt <[email protected]> had this to say:

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:

Have you tried accessing it in safe mode?

Safe Mode :

It could easily be malware related:

Malware Cleaning:

And if nothing there does the trick try a repair installation if possible:

Repair Installation of XP :

Hopefully that should get you there, if not then post back.

Wow, I'm getting lost in all the details you provided.

Here's the best generic response: Start your computer and tap the F8 key
continuoisly until you arrive at the boot options screen. Select the Last
Known Good option.
