WINDOWS XP WILL NOT REBOOT!. PLEASE HELP. - THANKS!

Hi,
I am desperate to fix my computer......I need your help
and advice if you know how to troubleshoot computer
problems.
I shut down my computer just to reboot it. I have done
this hundreds of times and without any problem...this
time, I left a floppy disk in the floppy drive and during
start up - the system did not retun me back to my windows
start up.....I can not get windows to start and can not
get back to my desktop of any files etc...upon restarting
the machine, It keeps taking me too me to a black page
with lots of white text - that at the bottom of the page
says "Verifying DMI Pool Data........" then followed by a
flashing curser...all I can do is keep rebooting it but it
returns me right back to the same place.
I did manage to get in to the system start up to make sure
all of the settings were at the prescribed defaults as
they should be...and the tried again only to return right
back to the "Verifying pool data...." page and flashing
curser..

***Can anyone please help me restore my computer and get
me back to my desktop???? I am desperate to not lose the
files and things on my desktop and in my files. Lots of
work done at risk for me!
rI have an athalon 1.1gig system...and I am using Windows
XP home operating sys.(but do not have the windows XP disk
available) Please write me at (e-mail address removed) to tell
me what to do or if you can please call me anytime day or
night at 954-421-1005 - or my cell is 954-684-7201 -
please leave a message if you can not get me for some
reason..!

it blinking for a long time...maybe it takes that long to fix the
problem. I often leave, eat lunch and come back to things like that
and woa...it's fixed!
