Windows XP vs. Word 97

I just purchased a new computer (finally) that of course comes with Windows XP. My old Dell came with Windows 98, and also with Works Suite 99. My new computer has a newer version of Works installed, minus Word. I attempted to cherry-pick Word 97 via custom installation from Works 99 to install on my new computer, and it appeared to install properly. However, shortly after I open Word 97, I get an error message that says "File Error - Cannot Find QLFENGL.DLL", and Word locks up, forcing me to use the Windows task manager to shut down the application and the error message. Does anyone have a clue about this? Is Word 97 not compatible with XP? I have looked in all of the XP and Word support areas and FAQ's, and found nothing related to this topic.

I am not familiar with Works99, but can can verify that Office 97 (with WORD
97) will install and run fine under XP. However, I did install service pack
2 for Office 97 before attempting to use WORD97, since I had heard that is
required.

Given where you are, try using windows explorer to look inside of the
Works99 CDROM and see whether you can find the missing file. If you find
it, try copying it to C:\windows\system32.

Word 97 does work with XP. I use it. I installed from my Office 97 CD.
Having said that, it's a blighter to get to work properly! Once it is - it
works. Getting it there is a pain in the derriére.
