The sensible approach is to simply purchase another license
(Product Key), change the Product Key and then activate your
second Windows XP installation.

Disk

1. Delete the Windows XP partition.
2. Create a new partition.
3. Format the new partition FAT32.
4. Install your desired Operating System.

Thanks for the info. I have the same problem. If I do
revert to Win 98, will the uninstall notify Microsoft and
enable me to activate the XP on another machine?

In the UK I have struggled to find a simple answer to
buying one extra license. I appear to have to buy 5
through the Open License scheme. Any ideas?

Thanks

Scott

FYI - a retail upgrade you purchase from your local PC shop or retail store
is most likely going to be cheaper than buying another license from MS (it
only a $10 difference here in the US) and will certainly be easier than the
headaches involved in reverting back to your old ME/98 OS, especially if you
didn't tell the upgrade to save the files being uninstalled. If the latter
is true, then a format and reinstall with all apps will be in order.

Greetings --

How could you not know that the Upgrade license you purchased was
for only one computer? Not only is the box plainly marked, but the
EULA which you read and to which you agreed during the installation
also makes this point very clear.

The normal way to "uninstall" _any_ operating system is to format
the hard drive and install a new OS of your choice.

However, if you performed an upgrade from Win98/Me, elected to
backup the old system files, and didn't convert the partition to NTFS,
then all you need do is boot into Safe Mode and Start > Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions _must_ be met for the
uninstall option to be available.
