Please Help?
Existing operating system: Win2000 Professional installed on drive "C", 30GB, Zip drive, and CD_RW drive.
Existing BIOS Award. Setup allows only a five digit number for the cylinders number which is not enough for the cylinder count with 16 heads, and 63 sectors / track for the new 80GB Maxtor hard drive.
Installing a new 80GB Maxtor hard drive.
Installing WinXP Professional Upgrade (label on box states "Upgrade").
Booted from the CD but the installation screen did not offer any option to upgrade from Win2000 Professional. The options were to install WinXP as a second operating system or format "C" and install WinXP as the only operating system. I chose to install as a second operating system. I chose to install on the new 80GB hard drive. The installation configured and formatted the 80GB hard drive and proceeded to install WinXP on it. The drive letter assigned to the new 80GB is "F". Upon reboot, a screen appears asking which operating system to boot from.
1.) How do I remove Win2000 Professional and make WinXP the only operating system. If I disconnect the 30GB hard drive the system will not boot.
2.) WinXP will not permit me to change drive letters on the "F" and "C" drives. How then can this be done such that the WinXP 80GB boot drive will be "C: and the original 30GB drive will be the "F" drive. WinXP states that "C" is a system drive and "F" is a boot drive.
3.) There are some programs on the original 30GB hard drive that will run from selecting from WinXP, others state that they must be reinstalled including all the MS OFFICE Professional Programs. What has happened here? What was purchased is a WinXP that stated "UPGRADE" on the box as well as install.
Respectfully,
