Windows XP updating from CD

I will be installing Windows XP on a machine that is out of town and has a
shocking internet connection. I have the SP2 cd provided by Microsoft but
need a way to install the remainder of new updates from CD.

Where can I download all the XP updates since service pack 2?

Thank You.

Generally you can't as all updates are via Windows Update Engine and also
some updates requires validation of your Microsoft Product to ensure you are
not a thief using pirated software!. I did not make this one up!

If you are a subscriber of Microsofts technical CDs then these are sent to
you automatically (about 100 CDs a year!) but the cost is very prohibitive.

Your best bet is to take your system to your nearest Internet Cafe where you
can use WI-FI connection to update it. This is assuming it is a
laptop/Notebook.

Alternatiely, have alook at update history of a machine which has all
updates and write down what updates are available. Then download them one by
one on a flash USB drive and do it that way.

Regards and have fun with Microsoft.

Please cross-post as opposed to multi-posting in the future. Finding the
same post from the same person in a different newsgroup and having already
answered it in another can be frustrating for everyone.. Including the OP if
they forget every newsgroup they multi-posted to.

You can download all updates and burn them to CD..

You can download each update manually - based off the KB Article number,
etc. That way you can back it up/burn a CD of them in case you need them or
use them to keep a slipstream/integrated (updated) Windows XP CD.

You can see the critical (security and other) patches released for a given
month using the following:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms##-***.mspx

At the end of this line you see "ms##-***.mspx" .. If you simply replace ##
with the two-digit year and the *** with the three character month
abbreviation, you will see the list of "critical" and "important" patches
for that month (since it only happens once a month usually, if you check by
the second Tuesday (wait until afternoon) of each month - you should be
fine) - note that future months will not work.

As an example...

December 2004's patches..
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms04-dec.mspx

March 2005's patches..
None released.. so that one will fail...

May 2005's patches..
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms05-may.mspx

July 2005's patches..
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms05-jul.mspx

Once you get on the page with each month's list of patches.. You can go to
the related KB articles and grab the appropriate files from there.

He has already got SP2. Why should he download again. Have you read his
message properly?

This link is outdated because you have to install SP2 to get more updates.

Of course you can. I have said so in my message that he has to download
manually. Standards have really fallen these days and people don't read
properly!

Why should I post 3rd party links when he is only interested in Official MS
site. Nest you will start giving him links for downloading for patches from
somewhere in Indian Outsourced call centre. There are many distributing XP
SP3 already but this is not good for anybody although it contains all the
patches one would need including spyware and trojans.

The rest if sheehans message is purged because it was irrelevant for
somebody like OP. He doesn't know how to get a better connection never mind
slipstreaming Windows XP. Batch file would be a better option for future
installations provided all updates are somewhere on CD or removeable drives.

And to correct you inline..

I read it.. He has the SP2 CD.. Perhaps the OP would like to make a CD with
all of the updates - SP2 included - instead of taking his ordered free CD to
where ever and leaving it behind? Perhaps the OP might like learning about
these things and may want to use it for other reasons. I don't believe in
giving people "just what they want" when it is so easy to go above and
beyond..

Incorrect.

First off - if SP2 has not been installed - and the implications of this
thread are that it has not been - then not only is the link not out-dated,
but it provides the tools and methods needed to properly update the
machine(s) in question with as little trouble as possible.

Secondly - you do not have to install SP2 in order to obtain updates - yet.
The support life for Windows XP with SP1 does not end until September 17,
2006 - at which time Microsoft can choose to stop supporting Windows XP SP1
level machines and only supply updates to those with SP2 or later. If you
think I made that number up..

Not only did I read properly - I gave the proper answer and beyond.

First off - it only lists the updates - the links from there download direct
from Microsoft.

Second - the word is "Next".

Third - if you insist on taking things out of context - please do it
properly - as the links after that are the official Microsoft links. The
post is a whole answer - not a bunch of individual ones. Options.. Ways to
go about things - there's lots of them - I like to give them all.

That is assuming much for someone who knows nothing about the OP, where they
live, etc.
Ignorance must be in the water where you live - perhaps you should switch to
soft-drinks... imported ones.
