WINDOWS XP UPDATES

Having problem downloading updates to XP: keep getting
error msg after starting setup, "setup could not verify
the integrity of the file "update.inf". Make sure the
cryptographic service is running on this computer. (I
checked the cryptographic service and it is indeed
running)

Are YOU getting the following error when you try to install Windows XP
Service Pack 1?
"Service Pack 1 Setup Error:
Setup could not verify the integrity of the file Update.inf. Make sure the
Cryptographic service is running on this computer"
Or
YOU are trying to install the Windows XP security patch 823980 - in
response to the msblast.exe worm and you are getting a similar error
message.

Hi Randy,

Open Windows Explorer to C:\Windows\system32, right-click/rename the
catroot2 folder to catold. Then retry the update installation. When
finished, there will be a new catroot2 folder and you can safely delete the
old renamed one.
