windows xp updates

hi...

i need some help...i have windows xp home edition on my laptop...what
updates do i need...it has not been kept up to date....

do i need the svc pk 2?

if i do, i keep getting error #0x8024001E

thanks...
 
1. Make sure that the automatic update service is started
0x8024001E -2145124322 WU_E_SERVICE_STOP call was aborted due to service stop or
system shut down

Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc
Click OK.
Look for the Automatic Update service and make sure that it is started.
