Windows XP Update Trouble

My dad has a Computer with Pentium 4 256mbs ram and 40
gig hard drive, well all of a sudden his computer won't
work just when he tries to go to the Windows Update page.
It keeps refreshing over and over again.
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ then this page
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp then
back again and it never stops nothing I have tried has
worked. I don't know why but it's just when we try to do
the Updates.
