I'm not sure because i've been away but i got a shield for an update and i
see no anouncement for it dated 5/22/07

Update for Windows XP (KB927891)
Download size: 1.2 MB , less than 1 minute
This is a reliability update. This update resolves an issue in the Windows
Installer (MSI) that can affect performance during software updates. After
you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

Ron,

I allowed it to install.
Now that I read the write up about it being a two parter, I hope I did not
make a mistake. I was not having the original problem but it was "foisted"
on me and I bit. Maybe I should have waited.

Opinions ???

Do it!

I've been advocating this one for awhile--glad it is being pushed out.

The second part is the new update client--not sure what the push plan is for
that--there is one, but you can get it now:

So did I, last night, though I've never seen the issue that it addresses
either. But I had a memory of Bill saying it was a Good Idea - and I see he
has a post again here endorsing it.

I was out this morning, and when I got home there was a little box in the
taskbar that said...Security update done with automatic reboot, so I didn't
have a choice anyway. Oh well, guess it went ok, computer seems fine....:)

Thanks--just what I should have posted.

Don't be misled by the error message in the subject header of the KB
article. Just because you haven't seen this error doesn't mean you aren't
impacted by the problem the new code fixes.

I believe that these fixes are quite well tested, and will be rolled out to
everyone automatically before long--the patch has been already--and the
Windows Update Client will be before long. However, you can get them now if
you wish.

If you have ever felt that your system was unresponsive in the course of
either Windows Defender definition installs, or AutoUpdate, Windows Update,
or Microsoft Update patch installations--these changes will help.
