I originally had my computer set up so that it was using the Windows XP style
for "Windows and Buttons" (found on the "Appearance" tab on the pop-up window
that appears when you right-click on an empty area of the desktop), but Ireset
my computer late last week and when it came back up, it was in "Windows Classic
style" mode and when the drop down box is clicked on in order to select a
different style, the classic style is the only one available. Somehow, Windows
XP has forgotten that it ever had a an XP style. Does anyone know what can be
done to restore the XP style option, short of re-installing Windows XP?

Go to Start > Run > services.msc
and check that the themes service is set to automatic.
If not, right click on it, choose properties and set it to automatic.
