Windows XP task Manager minimised icon

I have an windows xp Pro machine with an problem with the task manager
minimising when started.

The minimised icon starting the lower right hand side of the taskbar.
can not get the taskmanager to maximise.

any ideas why this is happening.

CTL+ALT+Del opens Task Manager on top of all open windows , then its icon
will show on the Notification Area (System Tray) righthand side of the
Taskbar. That icon is not a mminimized program icon, its a notification icon.
To maximize the Task Manager click the maximize button on the top right
(white square) within the Task Manager.
