After Juno 5.0 is started and connected via modem isp,
Windows XP initiates a system shutdown with a 30 second
timer with a complete restart. What is causing this to
happen.

Go to www.microsoft.com and look for downloads. There is
a nasty worm out there (I got it). If you have norton
antivirus they have a tool to remove it. Your computer
gets a notice that it is going to shut down in 30
seconds, then it restarts and does it again.

The name of the virus is W32.Spybot.worm or
W32.MSBlast.worm. Apparently the Spybot attaches itself
to KAZAA ( a popular search engine for downloading music)
and when you download music it travels to your computer.
Best thing to do is put up a firewall. Norton also has
this. Hope this helps.

this happened to my computer on 11.8.03 I was working on a
programme when the same timer appeared, it occured 3 times
within 1 hour. I would like to know what is causing this
to happen

Install:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp
As soon as you can!

Also enable Windows XP's built in firewall:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;283673

Then go to WindowsUpdate to pick up the latest updates:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

More info about the worm:
