Hi,

When I turn on my computer or reboot it when it gets to the windows startup
sound the sound plays and when it is almost done it gets very loud. It
sounds like it almost dies out and then just blasts the last note.

I have a Dell XPS system with windows XP professional.

thanks for any light you can shed on this

It's annoying, but FWIW, it doesn't hurt anything. The cause is a timing
situation between the player and the volume setup stuff during hte boot.
You can probably "fix" it if it doesn't fix itself shortly on its own, by
going to SourceForge or System Internals and looking for a program called
regopt. It doesn't change anything IN the registry, but it does place
things that occur during startup into a more logical sequence and usually
that will take care of the loud audio blurb.
If you boot a few times, it might even repair itself. If not, then I'd
give regopt a try.

PS - with XP, you're actually looking for ntregopt. Make sure whatever you
dl is rated for XP.
