Take out as many components as possible, and install them later. Start with
the Audigy card.

For what its worth I only use Corsair DDR now that its reasonably
priced. I had a similar issue putting together an A8V Deluxe with a
FX-53 cpu. I was using Mushkin PC3200 and when I switched over to two
CMX512-3200C2 sticks from Corsair my problem disappeared and WinXP Pro
installed flawlessly. I also had to replace 2 GB's of Mushkin PC3200 in
the system I put together for my sister-in-law with those same sticks
from Corsair and the problems that system mysteriously developed with
booting, or failing to POST, vanished immediately. I am now a Corsair
convert after using Mushkin exclusively for years.

As above +
run a full virus scan, full spyware scan with at least 2 up to date
reputable products (let usknow which ones), deinstall all crap / obsolete
apps, tidy your disk drive - use disk cleanup & *empty* the IE cache if you
use IE.

Download and run memtest86 and run for at least 2 full cycles.
as said, make sure you do *not* have any non-essential h/w during the
upgrade (since you are having a problem). De-power and disconnect all USB
Storage devices include SD card and the like adapters, Pen drives etc. etc.

XP SP2 install thrashes the system more than you may believe. So any over
temp components (IE CPU, Graphics) may crash the system. Check temps in the
BIOS, also check PSU voltages are within 5%.

Then try again.

It was the hard drive. It is faulty. I tried a known working drive and
Windows XP SP2 installed w/o issue.

Thanks
