High Temps and the P4 3.4E Costa Rica...

Hi

I have an Intel 3.4E proc SL7E6 Costa Rica, ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe BIOS
1021, Artic Silver 5, Lian Li PC-61 Black, Enermax 550 Watt PSU and a
Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu. Is there anyway to get the proc to 42C instead of
48C-50C idle?

I have a similar setup built up around an Intel 3.4E Malay, ASUS P4P800
Deluxe BIOS 1019, Intel thermal compound and a Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu. I
runs around 42C idle.

Should i buy a Zalman 7700 for my 3.4E Malay?

I don't see enough difference there, to try it. You've
already got a good one.

Instead, I would recommend a duct from your computer case side
to the heatsink. I think someone reported that they got a significant
improvement by doing that. If your case has a duct hole, all the
better. If not, there will be plenty of drilling and sawing.
An externally mounted 80mm or 120mm over the duct hole, would
also help.

I'm sure other people will recommend you relax, have a beer,
and forget about it. What is more important, is the 100% load
temp, as you do want to be cool enough to avoid the thermal
throttle feature that operates at 70C or so. For me, it would
be a hard decision, trading off yet more fan noise, for a
decrease in idle temps.

Thanks Paul,

I will probably buy a Zalman 7700 later.

WOW...my northwood runs at 32, idle, on the same board with stock
cooling!
The duct idea that Paul suggested is a great idea and it is also a
recommended specification for that class of proccessor.
A third party cooler for the cpu will also help, but not as much as
direct venting over the proc and northbridge.
I'm assuming that fat enermax has 2 fans and one should be sucking it
up over the cpu, make sure it is running...
