Windows XP SP2 transform?

Dave Dewire

Does anyone know how to install XP Service Pack 2 with a transform (.MST)?
Im need to roll out SP2 to my organization (via Novells Zenworks) and I want
the security center settings hard coded and do not want the security center
screen to pop up when the PC is rebooted. I also need other tweaks such as
firewall exceptions. I know which registry keys I want to modify but I dont
see any instructions on how to transform SP2 so everything is done
automatically. I attempted to just modify the update.inf but it wont
install because it cant verify the validity of the inf. Anyone know how to
tweak SP2 during the update?

Thanks,
Dave

Ive already looked at all those links and gone through alot of
documentation. I see nothing anywhere that discusses applying a transform
to the SP2 .msi, most of it was about modifying a new windows install not
just applying SP2 to an existing install. I did come across the Windows
firewall.inf docs but the docs are not very clear, the netfw.in_ isnt a
plain text file so I dont dont know if I can just replace it with an
existing netfw.inf in the I386 directory or what.

Is there some way I can just tack on a list of registry changes to be made
at the end of the SP2 install or running an extra .exe to make make tweaks
by modifying one of the INFs somewhere? I havent seen any examples out of
the many pages documentation Ive seen.

The bottom line is that I need to tweak the SP2 install and I still dont see
any way to make the registry changes I need to make even after looking
through all that documentation. I can see some of the keys in update.inf
that I want to modify but I dont think it will let me modify update.inf

That file (update.inf) is not intended to be edited or changed.
That is the primary installation file for the Service Pack.
Changes to that file could break Service Pack installations.

Using the Windows Firewall INF File in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...1d-2f97-4e63-a581-bf25685b4c43&displaylang=en

Note that the document in the link above does not explain what to
actually do to be able to use Netfw.inf to adjust the FW settings
as part of the SP2 installation (defined as "before installation"
above).

For instructions on how to do it, take a look at this thread:

We install SP2 with a script (using command line parameters to make
the installation unattended and suppress reboot), then the scrip
change registry settings etc., and then it reboots the computer.

Correct, changing update.inf is not an option.
