Windows XP SP2 slows "my computer" and ie acts up

After I install SP2 when I try to open "My Computer"
and "My Network Places" and it can take up to 5 minutes to
finally open. I checked in task manager and I see nothing
sucking the processor resources. I have also experienced
IE malfunctions, for example when I type an address it
show the window logo in the upper right moving but the
progress bar at the bottom does not appear and the site
doesn't show up. I have Norton SystemWorks 2003 installed
and have run almost all the checks on it and found nothing
wrong. I have also ran Ad-ware 6.0 Pro and found nothing
either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Much Thanks,
Roibeard

*In case it is needed here is my system info*

Yes, testing my HDs performance with latest Sandra scores a whopping
17MB/sec and these are udma5/6 HDs! Indeed there seems a breakshoe somewhere
in XP. I am close to reverting to SP1 even I have no other problems

How old is your computer?

What do u mean? with every service pack u need a faster system?
Is Microsoft code really this badly optimised?
BTW, my mobo is about 2 years old (XP2200+, DDR2100 (512MB), KT266)
It's still contemporary...

I would put no reliance at all on figures from Sandra

A better disk measurement tool is DiskSpeed32. You can test
basic functions like Access Time/Burst Speed and transfer rates
across the entire disk. Download here:
http://www.geocities.com/vgrinenko/DiskSpeed32/
If you are seeing low transfer rates, I'd suggest you check your
Primary/Secondary controllers and see what operating mode
they are set to.
