Windows XP SP2 installation problems !

Hello: My question is about SP2 installation & problems. I tried installing
SP2 1st. with a download and then with a CD, both times my pc had to be
reformatted with help from a Dell tech. support person. I recently got
information from Microsoft that support for SP1 will end on 10 Oct. of this
year. Before installing the 2nd. time I checked for viruses and spyware and
thought the system was clean to install, it worked ok and after shutting down
and rebooting nothing but problems, could no longer get to the internet plus
some programs would no longer work, hense a reformat, the 2nd. install took
place in 2005. My computer is a Dell desktop running Windows XP Home and the
system is about 4 years old. I am up to date on all my critical updates from
Microsoft but at this point I am afraid to try the install again. Is there
anything on information that could be of assist so I would not have to
reformat and reinstall everything? I may have to leave Windows & Microsoft
and go with another ISP, Thanks for any help, sorry for the long message.

In general, your PC must be problem-free and fully updated prior to
installing SP 2.
