I am trying to install service pack w on my laptop that is part of a domain.
whenever i try to install the service pack it will not let me and give me a
setup error. "Your do not have permission to update Windows XP. Please
contact your system administrator." I have full domain admins rights. Can
anyone help me on this.

Brian - have you tried running the install as the local administrator?
Perhaps Domain Admins was removed from the local administrator group?

Yes i have, and still nothing. After doing some research i found that is a
domain environment you must use either SUS or Group Policy to install SP-2. I
know there is a way in Group Policy to turn off this setting but can not
remember where it is. then again i haven't had time either. Any Suggestions.

Yes i did but to no avail. After some research i found that in a domain
environment you must use SUS or Group Policy. i know there is a way to turn
this off in Group Policy but then again i have been swamped and have not had
a chance to look. Any ideas.

Thanks

Hi

Not true. On my domain computer I can install SP2 whatever way
I want, using e.g the 266 MB standalone SP2 installation file, or
I can use Windows Update.

My domain user account is not a domain admin, but it is added to
the local Administrators group on the local computer.

Sounds good, however i have done the same, and it still does not allow it to
install. I even went in and completed a fresh install. I am a member of
domain admins, and enterprise admins, and local administrator. i appreciate
the information.
