Dear All,

After having a viruses removed from my system, windows reinstalled and then
SP1 followed by SP2 installed I now have all manner of problems. SP2 is now
no longer installed after a repair I ran.

Problem (1) is that I get the missing Windows root \ system32ntoskvnl.exe
corrupt/missing at boot but my system is on OEMversion of XP and the XP
article on Recovery Console advises me not to use it - so what else can I do??

Problem (2) Sometimes when I boot I don't get this error but I get a long
wait with a black screen before and especially after the green crawler, then
the window fades slowly onto a screen Windows starting-up (which takes about
3-4 minutes!) before entering Windows itself.

p.s. When I ran the Windows repairs the following message VIAAGP1.sys on
VIAAGP Filter Driver Disk is needed comes-up, I just clicked cancel becasue
had no idea where this was and installation (repair) proceeded.

p.p.s. Sometimes the system simply freezes on the first screen (i.e. no boot)

Any help at all would be much appreciated,

It sounds like you have hardware problems, Matthew. Take it back to the
shop and have them run thorough hardware diagnostics on it. Or if you
are unhappy with the service there, go to a different shop.
