Not much, just the basic steps :
- Run Disk Cleanup (Or www.ccleaner.com)
- Uninstall the junk
- Scan your PC for Anti-Virus, Spywares, Trojans etc.
- Defragment your hard disk

What steps can we take to increase our speed on Windows XP?

1. You can change to a faster processor, faster hard drive, faster video
card.

2. If you don't have enough RAM to keep you from using the page file, you
can install more RAM

3. You can make sure your computer is free of viruses and other forms of
malware.

4. You can look at the background programs you have starting automatically
when you boot to see if any them severely impact performance, and stop any
that do from starting automatically.

5. You can make sure you hard drive is kept defragmented.

You can avoid running any of the so-called performace-enhancing programs
that purport to speed things up. These are all snake oil, and some of them
can *hurt* performance.
