I have multiple xp pc's running on different networks with different
servers. All xp pc's are running slow especially after updating all
security updates. These are brand new pc's P4 3.0 and greater. Everything
else works fast off of the c drive. However, bringing up word or exel
documents off the server takes about 10 to 30 seconds. The common factor
that I have found possibly is that those pc's log into Novell server as well
with novell client v4.9 with sp. Does anyone know a fix for this slow
response off of any server whether you are file and printing off of a
microsoft server or novell server ? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

WinXP slow Response with Novell Client32

You may have already figured this out based upon the date of your posting, however this was a new problem to me and the fix I found for the slow response with the WinXP PC when accessing Network drives or when launcing MS Office applications was to adjust a few settings within Client32. If you access to Client32 properties and select the Advanced settings tab, look for SLP Active Discovery and turn it Off. You may want to ensure that the USE DHCP for SLP is turned Off and possibly ensure that the UNC Path Filter is On. I installed the latest Client32, 4.91 with SP1 and the performance improved greatly. Hope this helps.
